Itinerary Details

Begin your adventure with an airport or hotel pick-up in San Salvador. After a scenic two-hour drive, you’ll arrive at the reserve and check into your accommodations. Kick off the tour with some local birding, or if you prefer, take a break before dinner and then start with 2-3 hours of nocturnal birding.

For most of the tour, you’ll be traveling by car, only needing to step out to capture the best owl photos at night. During the day, we will drive short distances and take leisurely walks of about half to one mile. The roads are flat but unpaved, taking us through a mix of open and forested habitats.

In addition to owl sightings, we’ll explore various habitats at the reserve during the day, including mangrove forests accessible by foot or boat, Cocoa Plantations, and Alluvial Forests. Keep an eye out for Harris Hawk, Boat-billed Heron, Gray Hawk, Roadside Hawk, Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, and Mangrove Yellow Warbler, as well as wildlife like Spectacled Caimans and Central American Agouti.

The tour concludes with a transfer back to your hotel or the airport in San Salvador.

Note: The itinerary may be adjusted depending on your flight arrival time or pick-up location.
