The small territory of El Salvador allows you to move between birding spots in about 50 minutes, ensuring you spend more time birding and less time traveling. The well-maintained trails and terrain provide a comfortable birding experience, and you’ll have plenty of options to enjoy delicious local cuisine, including Pupusas, at some of the top local restaurants. The scenery changes dramatically within an hour’s drive, offering views of the ocean, lakes, cityscapes, and towering volcanoes.
Detailed Itinerary
- Early Morning Start: Begin your birding adventure at the parking lot grounds of Eco Parque El Espino, where bird activity is high. Walk the park trails with ample space to spot a variety of bird species.
- Mid-Morning: Head to Boquerón Park to continue birding on the park trails. Enjoy fresh air and tall trees, with great views of the San Salvador volcano’s main crater. The new network of trails going up steps to the edge of the main crater is not physically demanding.
- Lunch: Drive through San Salvador and stop for a meal. Choose from local food options or a popular spot for Pupusas about halfway to the coast.
- Afternoon: Spend the last hours of the day searching for waders and watching the sunset. Afterward, return to your hotel.
