As the most active volcano in the country, this hike starts at a low elevation and involves an elevation change of about 3,780 feet to reach the summit. The trail conditions vary from good to rough, and with clear weather, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the Tecapa-Chinameca mountain range, San Vicente Volcano to the west, and the distant Cacahuatique mountain range to the northeast. The hike also offers amazing views of the Jiquilisco Bay Mangrove forest and canals. Detailed Itinerary
- Early Morning Start: We begin around 5 am from your hotel in San Salvador, heading southeast with views of San Vicente Volcano and the Tecapa-Chinameca mountain range.
- Arrival and Ascent: Upon arrival at the village where the hike starts, we meet our local guide and begin the ascent. The hike is a round trip of 6 to 6.5 miles, taking approximately 5 to 6 hours.
- Halfway Point: The landscape views become more impressive halfway up, with great opportunities for photos and rest breaks.
- Summit Views: At the summit, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding areas, including the Pacific Ocean, mountain ranges, and mangrove forests.
- Descent and Meal: After descending, we stop at a local restaurant to enjoy a well-deserved meal before returning to your hotel in San Salvador.
